Pony Hunter Broodmares

Our broodmares at Baystar Farms are very carefully selected based on very high standards for conformation, bloodlines, performance records and personality.

We have a combination of Welsh, Thoroughbred and North American Sport Pony breeding in our programme. These girls themselves boast fantastic performance records including wins at ultra-competitive shows including Devon, Radnor, and many of the top US and Canadian show series. The ladies sport remarkable bloodlines, and proven production records.

Findeln Siren (Glannant Limerick Welsh Section B x Fideln Mermaid Section B)

1983 13h Bay Welsh Section B

Findeln Siren is a truly legendary hunter pony broodmare. She has produced not only top hunter pony champions, including the famous Pony Dot Com and You've Got Mail, but also several impressive young stallions (Tantallon All American by Benlea Rambler, Trotting For Gold by Otteridge Foxtrot) and top broodmares such as Benlea Pandora of Quicksilver Farms in Ohio. She is also wracking up a remarkable list of grandsons and granddaughters, including Ecurie Fairmont's Welsh sire, First Encounter. "Serene" passes on consistent, impeccable quality, incredible movement, and a gorgeous neck to each of her offspring. We were delighted to host this incomparable girl in the 2008 season, and wish all the best to Margaret Bzdak of Tantallon Farm in breeding her to the exceptional Otteridge Foxtrot in 2009.

Tantallon Rhythm N' Blues (Lemontree Sea Captain Welsh Section B x Benlea Tempo Welsh

Section B)

1996 13.3h Liver Chestnut Sabino Welsh Section B

Tantallon Rhythm N' Blues is simply a gorgeous pony. The third generation of the Tantallon Farm breeding programme, she is a flawless demonstration of ideal hunter pony type. She followed her fantastic career on the line, including a win at Devon with Oliver Brown, with beautiful form in the hunter ring as well. "Harmony" is one of the best moving ponies we've seen, and pairs an intelligent, loving temperament and terrific bloodlines with phenomenal "show presence". Now accumulating wins on both sides of the border, Harmony was awarded a Reserve Championship at the 2008 Royal Winter Fair for all Section B Welsh mares. This mare easily garners fans wherever she goes!  Harmony will be returning to Tantallon Farm in Virginia in 2010, and she will certainly take a piece of our hearts with her.

Lianna's Gemstone (Baledon Hy-Jinx Section A x Snow Pony Goldilocks Section A)

1991 11.2h Roan Sabino Welsh Section A

"Gem" has produced several fantastic children's ponies by numerous different stallions. She is of perfect Section A type, including a beautiful little dishy head with huge, expressive eyes and an adorable muzzle. She also happens to carry both sabino and dilute genes, so she has had some foals with fantastic colouring. The epitome of a sweet, shy pony, she is instantly lovable. Photo on left, Lianna's Gemstone heavily in foal. On the right, her beautiful filly Beau Haven Cat's Meow by Northwind Catcall.

Vanilla Smoothie has a fantastic performance record in the Medium Pony Division on the "A" circuit, both here in Canada and in the US. She has also had great success in the equitation and Medal classes. "Mollie" is a beautiful, very sweet natured pony, sporting correct conformation and a lovely, fluid topline. A superb mover, she always gets a top prize in the hack. Truly a sensible child's pony, eager to take care of her little rider, including auto leads!

Vanilla Smoothie is in foal to Tantallon All American due July 2009. This foal has been sold in-utero as a superb pony hunter prospect.  Vanilla Smoothie will be heading back into the ring with her owner in 2010.

My Kickin’ Cass (US Flag TB x Hasty Addy TB)

1993 15.1h Chestnut Sabino Registered JC Thoroughbred

This little mare is indeed a special addition to our broodmare band. With ribbons at such prestigious shows such as Devon and Radnor in the Small Junior Hunters, her worth as a top hunter is certainly more than proven. “Cassie” also has the most enormous, undeniably notable trot for the hunter ring that truly leaves one in disbelief wondering how such impressive movement comes from such a little mare! Beautifully refined and correct, Cass has already produced a remarkable filly by the fabulous pinto TB sire Wild By Design. Her dainty, feminine face is as expressive as her fabulous movement, and so well can depict her tough but kind and affectionate personality. Her naturally unflappable temperament makes her a consistent joy to work with, as she’s very much a no-fuss type of girl. Her solid hunter pedigree includes Hoist The Flag, Turn To, Bold Ruler, Something Royal, Royal Charger, Nasrullah, and Princequillo. Photo at left, My Kickin' Cass. At right, her beautiful filly by Wild By Design.

My Kickin’ Cass had a stunning liver chestnut colt with chrome by Tantallon All American in 2009. He will be a world class large pony hunter, and is bound to be the hack winner as well.  Just beautifully built!  He is offered for sale to a show home, please visit our sales page for further details.

This mare has been leased for the 2010 season.

Flip A Coin (Ramparts TB x Miss Libby Divot TB   SOLD!

1994 15.3h Bay Registered Thoroughbred

Flip A Coin is the picture of exquisite refinement, she is indeed divinely feminine in conformation. "Flipper" has truly lovely hack-winning movement, and fancy, consistent form over fences. Her huge doe eyes and long lashes certainly do not accurately depict her tough, and exceedingly brave personality. We are indeed thankful that this special mare was snatched out of the hands of an American "Big Name Trainer" and kept in Canada. After successful seasons in the hunter ring with her young rider, including a Highest Scoring Thoroughbred award, she has temporarily retired from competition to produce some fabulous hunter prospects for us. Her sire Ramparts, known for his kind temperament, has thrown quite a number of successful sport horses in the Ottawa area. Her dam, Miss Libby Divot, was an accomplished eventer, and perhaps in large part responsible for Flipper's bold personality. As both of her parents were quite tall it is entirely possible that this lovely mare will produce significantly larger than herself when bred to a full sized stallion. Flip A Coin's bloodlines include the likes of Bull Dog, Sweep, Turn To, Native Dancer, Royal Charger, Nearco, Teddy, Mahmoud, Fair Play and Lavendula, to some the mother of all modern hunters.

Flip A Coin has had an exquisite chestnut filly with chrome by Tantallon All American in 2009. She is truly the prettiest filly, and will make an incredible large pony hunter.  She is offered for sale to a show home, please visit our sales page for further details.

This kind, patient mare is an unbelievable mover, with an entirely jaw-dropping trot and floaty, cadenced canter. Chloe has beautifully balanced, correct and full bodied conformation, excellent feet, and a lovely, sweet expression. This proven producer had a stunning colt by the Argentinian Thoroughbred stallion Yavari. Backstage Pass boasts a very accomplished dressage Cob sire, and each of her half-Thoroughbred full siblings have gone on to very successful careers on the A circuit.

Click here for more photos of Backstage Pass and her offspring.
